Scholarly Journal 2

“Beatles, or Stones?”, is a 2007 article from the Believer magazine by John McMillian. The scholarly journal is about how the two bands The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, on who which group to listen to as a teenager. In 1968, Mick Jagger flew from L.A. to London for a birthday party in which the party had many exotic items like Turkish hookahs and they were under black lights. Mick Jagger gave the people an advanced listing to their new album, Beggars Banquet, to play in the club. Paul McCartney walked in and passed Sanchez a copy to the Beatles single “Hey Jude/Revoultion”, which was never heard outside of Abbey Road Studios. The DJ played “ Revolution”, Mick looked peeved as the The Beatles had upstaged them.

When The Rolling Stones arrived in the U.S, The first Associated Press described them as dirtier, streakier, and more disheveled that the Beatles. They described the Beatles as incredibly lovable, amiable fellows. Both bands where fighting for air time on the radio and record sales throughout the 1960s. They supposed “ideological rift” between the two bands was nearly as stylized as the contrasting costumes they wore on The Ed Sullivan Show. In some fundamental way, they believed themselves to be part of the same community as John and Paul, and Mick and Keith. They believed they were all fighting for the same things.

Club meeting

The club meeting I went to was a Christian church meeting about a missionary trip to Mexico. My friend took me there because he is going and wanted more people to go. The whole night was about traveling to San Diego and driving down into Mexi Cali. The pastor was going over the full 3 day schedule in what the men and the women where going to do there with different jobs. Like an ordinary missionary trip, the pastor was talking about the church was going to be your sleeping ground and bathrooms where outside of the church. From the beginning of the night I was not interested in joining a missionary trip but at the end I had some thought about going to a missionary trip in which it will be my first trip.

Study tips 3

My last study tip is not to procrastinate studying before a test or a final. It shows that you do not care about the course and how lazy you are not studying for a test. The best thing is if you know a test is to study at least 30 min a night and of the week of the test, as much as you need. Study in places where you can focus and there is least noise. The MLK library is a place where I find studying the best place in which the internet is faster and it is complete silence.

music memories 2 interview

“Rock n Roll has changed in the last 30 years”, said my father. My interviewee was my dad who grew up in the rock ‘n’ roll times of the British invasion when many of the new bands came to America. His favorite band of the time is the Beatles because they were the best band of that time and they had good taste in their music. Now, he likes the Eagles from the past 10 years.

When talking about rock ‘n’ roll he said that when he was a teenager he listen to all of the rock and roll music at the time. From Bob Dylan to the Beatles he had many good taste in music. His favorite band like I said was the Beatles. He had collected many of their records including Abbey Roads in which he showed my brother and I last year in which we did not know he had. Another album he had was the “Meet the Beatles” while he was in High school. “ I wanna hold your hand” was the most popular song at the time that everyone heard. He stopped listening to the Beatles after the 80’s and listen to the Eagles. “Hotel California” was his favorite Eagles song. He liked the Eagles after from their guitar solos and wanted a new taste in rock ‘n’ roll. He loved when we bought him the greatest hits album of the Eagles back for his birthday gift.

Lyrics Analysis

My song I analyzed was "Eye of the Tiger" by the Survivors. The song was used and is known for the movie series Rocky. The lyric s of the song represents a person who stands up and works really hard in what he does. The first verse is someone who did something but failed the first time. This is repeated over and over again until he succeeds. He trades in passion for glory also he still fights for passion too.

The chorus is pretty much an underdog story when the person fights. Eye of the tiger refers the fierceness of a person in battle. Eye of the tiger is also talks when he stalks his enemy and watching them at night. Also in the chorus there is a fight in which he wins. The person is the underdog in the lyrics.

The other verses is about how he is going to approach the enemy. Out in the heat, the person faces him and staying hungry about his fight. The last verse is when he is defeated with his guts in the toilet. They fought the distance and the better person won the fight. The song fades with “the eye of the tiger”.

My Top Music Moment

The West Coast-East Coast feud was my moment in music history. The West Coast had Tupac, Sugg Knight, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. East Coast had Biggie Smalls, Puff Diddy, and Junior Mafia. There was a rivalry between the two record companies Death Row Records and Bad Boy Records. The feud started when Tupac was shoot outside a New York recording studio. At the same moment Biggie Smalls and his group recording songs. Pac blamed the shooting on Biggies group starting the feud. They would both have rap songs dissing each other for 2 more years. Tupac was shoot and died in Las Vegas in 1996 and Biggie a year later, thus ending the feud between each other.

Drugs is heavily impacted around majority of freshmen taking it or asked about drugs. From Marijuana to cocaine, there have been many drug related incidents that have affected my time at SJSU. drugs can take a tole in someones life to an addiction to leading causes in death. There are many time when you want to say no but peer pressured into taking a drug.

There is unlimited access to finding drugs on campus. Over the counter drugs can be overdose on Tylenol and cough medicine. That is one of the easy ways students can get a high off a non prescript drug. Finding a drug dealer can give you access to many drugs from: cannabis, cocaine, estacy, and pcp. Another way is to buy from a smoke store that sells salvia, a drug in which people hallucinate from the smoke. Since Salvia is not illegal to sell yet, smoke shops are allowed to provide it in their stores but they can only sell up to a certain times high in the store.

The drugs mostly used on campus is marijuana. A dime bag for at least 2-4 people can get them high instantly. The drug is very cheap and you can get various things to smoke it out of. Marijuana high can leave people baked for a good three to five hours but it can also give them munches in where they crave to eat a lot. Another drug on campus is estacy. Instead of smoking it like marijuana, estacy is a pill also known ass Thizz. When people take it they feel energetic and feel fresh before a party. Takers also have to drink at least a gallon of water after consuming the drug.

In what I have experienced is to walk away from taking drugs here on campus. I do not want to take the risk of smoking marijuana and getting caught with the RAs. There have been many ignorant happenings in which people have gotten injured from drugs. Every time some asks I just say NO!

Muse 2

For my second non muse event I attended the homecoming football game against Idaho. Standing in the Spartan Squad section I blended in with all the 3,000 yellow shirts in the stands rooting for the Spartans. The game was close in the beginning when we could have scored a TD but stopped. In the 4th quarter the team made bad plays and could not tackle the ball carrier. With seconds left Our Qb got intercepted with no WR standing there. Majority of the people left after the play disappointed.

Scholarly Journal

In “ The Cambridge Companion to Bob Dylan” by Ed Kevin Dettmar a 2009 journal published by Blackwell publishing, he talks about how Bob Dylan is still a musical influence today. The article also talks about the treatment of women in Dylan’s songs to in real life scenarios. You can still hear Dylan’s work from his 30th album to ipods, radios and cds.

In 2007, Dylan released his thirtieth record album “ Together through life” which was a hit on the record charts. The album sold millions to country music fans. He also was a subject of a Hollywood movie in 2007, “ I’m not there”. We still listen to his songs from new technology of mp3 players and satellite radio, a big difference from how people listen to music in the 1960’s of the albums to home radios.

Barbara O’ Dair provides an explanation of the sexism in the song “ Just like a women”. She states that some of the songs lines had no taste and the speaker’s vulnerability and shame. They also defined Dylan’s male heroic persona in which he tropes of the feminine as an accessory. They also talk about how Dylan influenced many artist in using marijuana. From the Beatles in 1964 they got influenced in a recording studio.

Sex essay

Talking about sex

Pressure can come from all around a college person into sex. Frats, roommates, and friends. Even with no parental control sex can abide peoples mind that it is not the only thing going on in this campus. Dating is special to take it the next level in college but not too far. I feel that sex in the dorms or off campus should be protective and safe. If the girls says “ No” then do not go any farther.

By law if the girl does not consent to the sex it is illegal in penalties up to a couple of years in jail and a fine. Sex can be very important to a women’s life especially when there is no parental figure in colleges. The only person who can say no is themselves and no other persons. As a freshmen in college, women are pressured more then men to have sex. Is it for pleasure or for love. Men count who they sleep with and how many girls they get in a month or a week. Protection is the best way to stay safe. A condom should be used at at all times if you want a baby other wise.

In a survey it had stated that majority of married couples meet during their colleges lives. Dating is important to find someone new and to meet the girl or guy of your dreams. As long as you take it slow dating in college, and the parties there could be sparks in that fire. Sex can control a couples relationship because you can get pressured from the friends around. Marriage could be on the way if couples stay on course and not hit a bump in the road.

Finding a person before you start to do something with her on Facebook or Myspace is a good and bad thing to do. The goods is that you learn information about the person, for example where the person is from, birthdays, and what types of music they listen to. The web can also tell if the person is true to his or her statements. The bad about the web about the person is overlooking into their pictures. Obsession can result into stalking someone. Knowing too much about the person before hand is bad because talking about issues is better than finding it on the web.

As a result sex can control peoples lives into pressure and from many people. Dating is important in finding a soul mate or that special someone. Sex while dating can be special in their relationship, but protection should be used all the time while having sexual intercourse. If I had a younger sibling, I would tell them to use protection all the time and be wise about having sexual intercourse.

MUSIC MEMORIES 1

Throughout the years music has influenced my life in a whole new direction. From listing all kinds of genres of music it opens my taste to new kinds of music. My all time favorite is still Hip-Hop and Rap because artists use poetic verses to tell there true life story to being successful in becoming an artist.

The first song i remember when i was 3 years old was old Disney classic songs. I would always dance to the theme music to Disney sing along intro. My favorite song was “I think I can” and Peter Pan’s “ You can Fly”. At the age of 6 I heard this song on the radio that caught my attention. Tupac Shakur’s “Changes”, it is still one of my favorite songs of all time. 8-9 years old I was in a Pop genre phase, listening to ‘N SYNC and Back Street Boys. My favorite song at that time was “ Its tearing up my heart” by ‘NSYNC. I was in my rock phase when skateboarding was a huge hit. Songs like “Whats my age again” by Blink 182 and “ Fat Lip” by Sum 41. When I got into middle school 12- 14,I started to listen Rap music. “Welcome to ATL” by Ludacris, “ In the club” by 50 Cent and “ All falls Down” by Kanye West. When I was 17, I started to listen to more 90’s rap and alternative music. My favorite was “ Feather” by Nujabes because a Japanese producer made the beat with some crazy rapping. Another song was “Stronger” by Kanye West.

learning styles

How I Like to learn is in groups which is most effective to me. In groups of either two to six people, each of us can contribute new ideas of the subject that other group members do not know. If someone does not know vocabulary, the group can help you find the answer very quickly. Another method I like to use is look up main points and vocabulary words in the texts.
